Over the 14th and 15th of September, the Velondriake community will formally announce the first permanent No Take Zone (NTZ) closures in the Velondriake MPA. The permanent closures of these reserve will prevent any and all extractive activity from taking place within their boundaries and represents another large step made by the communities within Velondriake to sustainable management of their marine resources. These reserves will complement the temporary NTZ closures employed so successfully in Velondriake since 2004.

Andavadoaka 02 June 2009. 70 000 people live in the coastal villages of southwest Madagascar. Most of them are Vezo; a traditionally semi-nomadic people whose cultural identity is based around a seafaring existence.

Andavadoaka 23 February 2009 (IUCN) A four-day training workshop held by marine conservation NGOs, Blue Ventures and Shoals Rodrigues, and the Velondriake committee for four fishermen who had travelled to Andavadoaka from Rodrigues, a small island 650 km east of Mauritius. The objective of the workshop was to teach and inspire the Rodrigan fishermen through an exchange of experiences and ideas with the Velondriake committee.
